Heritage is my blood

On Heritage Day, 24 September 2018 I added a story to what was originally an Instagram image posted the day before my mother departed her earthly life in January 2017.

The Instagram post was my way of commemorating the moment I was making peace with God because I knew that He is taking her angel back to spirit world.

Today it lands on my timeline again,

And what is says to me is,

“Ncum, baby, Mama is saying hello from the other side. For I have never left you. Yes I am resting, watching over you and giggling at finally being able to see you first hand live your life to the fullest.

Always remember that dreams come true, never stop dreaming, and the only way to manifest LOVE is to be true to yourself, even when it is easier to be someone you are not.” – Mom.

I write today in memory of the Batlokoa Princess, Ntsebeng, Lily, Nomzi, Sebi, ‘N’; who in my eyes exemplifies true dedication to living a life of purpose.

I will always look up to you, Mama, your best and your worst.

Not because I want to emulate you and how you lived, but because I want to remember that it is possible to live a life of purpose and passion. I know this through you.

Loving you forever and always,

Ncum.

Welcome

Hey there,

I am Ncumisa Nomna Mbusi, welcome to my world of thoughts…

I love dreaming about all things possible in life, also overthinking problems and solutions to a myriad things in life.

I am an intuitive change coach with my heart on the sleeve, opening up my heart to air experiences and documenting these vivid imaginations, experiences and journeys through writing.

My journey is riddled with highs and lows, bests and worsts. This blog is made up of my authentic stories of showing up in the world, putting myself out there and living my best life.

It also features those who cross my path and pepper it with inspiration, wisdom, growth, friendship and love. I continue to write in this blog because I have found writing to be therapeutic to my mind that’s always on serious over-drive, thus freeing my soul to live a positive life, spiritually inclined to my core soul purpose.

I am sharing those writings with the world because… Why not? Maybe, just maybe, someone may resonate and get inspired, healed, motivated and understood. Or even just know that we are not alone in this world… perhaps positively change someone’s perspective on their reality.

Why? Because, positivity can be a cure to the world’s ills and problems….

Happy gazing!!!

Mind my PMS

Right in the middle of all the fury, I remember, PMS.

Yeah?

It is so funny how idiotic one feels…

When it rings a bell that, “yes, you may have been wronged Ncumisa, no need to take it all the way to town and back!” It’s really not that baad…

Say that to my hormones…. IT’S NOT ME!!!!!

Flash-fashion-forward!!!

Its been 6 years….
Its time❤

It is 2013, and what better way to start off the new year on a fresh exciting note!!!

Okay, my only new year’s resolution, is to put a bit more time and effort into this space, and, please Lawd help me, find inspiration not in pain and heartache, but the everyday joys and pleasures.

One pleasure I indulge myself in every morning, that usually determines my attitude for the day ahead, is my outfit for the day. I should mention, I love shopping like all women, and unfortunately, sometimes you can only do so little shopping with a tight budget, so, creativity starts kicking in.

I will be documenting some of my inspirational “recycled” outfits now and again. Well, by recycled I don’t mean I will be showing you outfits made out of plastic and all sorts of recycled material, (I’m not that brave / daring), but rather how to…

Wrap me with Love…

Give me a gift I can wear, all my life.

Wrap me with Love!

I will remove it when I bath, and lather myself with your soap of love.

I will put lotion on,

One buttered with your love,

And feel my skin soften.

I will wrap my body with cloth,

One with your love,

From you, my love,

And feel love.

How often do we stay naked in life?

Even in the coffin, we cloth.

We know no nakedness, only cloth, and when we are naked, we still don’t see our nudity!

The world can bevel and laugh, admire, adore us. Still, the world is our eyes, that sees our nakedness.

Lest we take a photo, capture ourselves in a moment of nakedness, and risk public scrutiny when pandora’s box opens.

Or look in the mirror, and miss how perfect our nakedness is, because the mirror is crap quality.

Yes, wrap me with love.

Buy me a gorgeous dress.

Cover my nakedness with grace.

Allow me to take it off and cherish my nakedness,

When I allow myself to be me,

Look at my nakedness

With just as much love.

A candle loses nothing by lighting another

Someone I was talking to said this, “A candle loses nothing by lighting another”.

I chose to remember by posting a blog heading. But now I can’t remember exactly who said it!

I am hoping that, soon, one of these days, I can elaborate further on it.

For now, let me go research this statement!

Stay tuned.

Black Tax

Some say it’s black tax. I call it Voluntary Social Investment  (VSI).

I call it an investment into the future of black child. Into my own blood that runs through my veins. The same blood that contributed into making me who I am. The same blood that made my wildest dreams come true.

Why is it tax? Was it not investment when it was someone’s turn to pay it for me?

I grew up curious and secretly meddled up in my parents, aunts and their friends’ business.

Camping in my parent’s bedroom when they leave the house was my favourite pastime. I’d roam through drawers, read their payslips and bank statements; try to understand their many insurance policies and what they mean, how they work. sometimes one would also listen to their conversations about their challenges and their future plans (what does an ear do when its idle? It listens).

I learnt a lot in this time. I got to know what it took for everything to be so beautiful and rosy. I was privy to the tensions of needing to get things done and the universe saying NO. I overheard mom’s conversations with her friends trying to support each other, figuring out how to change the story from one of abject poverty to one of bright positive change.

They did great, here we are, living proof! Those Mashonisa journeys and endless stokvel deals of who is doing what for whom have paid off. Most of my parents’ circles and families have had opportunities to change the story from one of lack and poverty to one of education, success and riches for some.

I saw families and friends come together and support one another. This exchange has continued to produce noble citizens, educated loved ones and a few riches too! I realise when I look upon the generations before them that, it has been quite a generational journey, making means to make tomorrow better than yesterday for society.

So, when it is my turn to do same, I always think to myself,

“Dear God, why do I owe such honour? To be a tool that advances a fellow human being into their future!”

Now, I say this knowing that I have not always seen things this way. One has gone and neglected some parts that contributed to where we are because it was easier and convenient to do so. Thinking that one needs to satisfy oneself more therefore someone else will do it. It does haunt me though sometimes. I guess I always think to myself, I wish I had chosen differently. I recognise also that I did not have today’s wisdom then. So I endeavour to forgive myself every time regret surfaces instead of vilifying myself with perpetual guilt.

It is sometimes easier to be in the receiving end than it is to be in the giving one. Giving takes heart. This is because for you to give sometimes, it means pausing something in your own plan.

It means recognising that someone needs more than you want therefore you choose for them to have what they need instead as a gesture of Ubuntu.

When the heart sees that gesture as tax, then maybe you should not even bother! Blessed is the heart that gives freely and lovingly. It is an investment in a human being. Not a liability in your balance sheet.

For we are here to serveWhen you give freely upon your own recognition of need and your decision to change that story, the universe rewards you immensely.

I know this because I am living proof of God’s mercy and investment in his people. I know it through every gesture of kindness that lands on my lap just as I need it while scratching my head trying to figure out how to move ahead in this journey called life.

Thank you for life, Jah.

Thank you for every human being that sees my need and decides to change my story. I hope your investment in me pays off and reverberates for generations to come.

I thank YOU❤.

Heed this raw lesson,

Dagga brilliance

I cannot help but feel compelled to jot down a word or two. Well, I think it would be cruel and irresponsible of me to not share this. We have just received free will to smoke our lungs out, get high with pleasure as we please.

Some of us have been at it and know that, now that people will not go to jail anymore for smoking marijuana, we might find ourselves faced with weed casualties soon. Unless of course, the connoisseurs shed a light on how this ish rolls.

Neh!

Firstly, you smoke your own stash. Period.

Or else you will go crazy. Or get hooked on drugs you don’t want.

You don’t know who smokes what. And to be honest, unless you have been studying marijuna strains for a while, everything is good shit if you don’t know shit.

Remember that this lesson is first hand experiences. As you know, life is a terrible teacher because the lesson comes after the experience.

If you didn’t grow it

or buy it yourself,

are not rolling it yourself,

you probably shouldn’t be smoking it!

And that’s the end of it.

Celebrate One-of-a-Kind YOU…

Today I realise, Zenwa adds value to its customer.

How so?

There was a time when I felt bad and discouraged about showcasing the latest Zenwa range to whomever I come across, my existing clientele as well. I would often think to myself, “Times are tough, we are all struggling financially with taxes going up and the gloomy economic conditions in our country. What makes you, Ncumisa, think that there is a woman out there who will spend their hard-earned money on frivolous purchases like your fabulous dresses and decor stuff?”

Well, today I was sitting in a taxi and overhead women talk among themselves. What triggered my interest in the conversation was the context.

One was sharing with her travel-mates how, the specific dress she was wearing, bought with her hard-earned money, reminded every time she wore it that she is fabulous!

They went on and talked about how one does not need a lot of stuff, buying a dress or two that will serve you for a few years is sufficient. Because, as women we do need that special 👗 that always works no matter what! That recollects one’s confidence without breaking the bank, serving well in any occasion, be it a formal family gathering, a church event, a wedding or even that odd outing with the girls!

So, dear reader,

I proudly say, Zenwa aims to serve and honour the woman. Every part of her that needs to be clothed and soothed. Reminded of her greatness. Gracing her ebbs and flows without making her feel too fat or too skinny. Serving her for years as if it was bought yesterday!

We all deserve it. Our confidence in ourselves and our abilities is elevated when we feel beautiful.

And the right dress does just that.

We conquer the world one dress a time!

#NumeroUno

A short while ago, soon to be a year to be exact, we had our first official photo shoot.

It was awesome, perfect and the best delivery for a first attempt for all of us except the photographer of course.

So, as we continue to discover fabulous platforms that take the meander work we plough into majestic publications,

We are sharing our first official Zenwa catalogue, on our brand new Issuu platform.

Happy gazing!
